'Dune' Opens to $40 Million at the Box Office

"Dune," an adaptation of Frank Herbert's sci-fi epic, opened to $40.1 million at the North American box office. It's a respectable start given the ongoing pandemic and the film's unconventional theatrical debut. In addition to playing in 4,125 domestic theaters, "Dune" (like all Warner Bros. movies in 2021) premiered simultaneously on HBO Max, which might have taken a chunk out of overall ticket sales.

"I'm smiling," Warner Bros. president of domestic distribution Jeff Goldstein said on Sunday morning. "Exhibitors are thrilled. The best part is, fans are loving what they're seeing. They're loving the big-screen experience. It's been a winner of a weekend for movie-lovers."

Directed by Oscar nominee Denis Villeneuve ("Blade Runner 2049" and "Arrival") and starring Timothee Chalamet, Rebecca Ferguson, Oscar Isaac, and Josh Brolin, "Dune" is the first chapter in an expected two-part saga. Villeneuve and the cast of the movie have said they would like to make the follow-up to complete the story about warring political dynasties that clash over access to a vital planet. The question now: will ticket sales start to be enough to justify a sequel? Given the film's hefty $165 million price tag, including the millions spent to market it as a cinematic event, it's unclear if box office revenues alone will be enough to warrant a return to the desert land of Arrakis. In that case, "Dune" will have to perform very well on HBO Max to convince the studio it should inject another $165 million to complete the star-studded interplanetary tale. Legendary Pictures co-financed "Dune" in addition to producing and developing the movie.

Lisa Of BLACKPINK Is A Hit In America

For several days now, Lisa’s single “Lalisa” has been popping up on charts all around the world as they refresh, and now the time has come for her to make her grand entrance in America.

The performer, known primarily for her work with South Korean girl group Blackpink, scores her debut appearance on the Hot 100 this week with her first-ever release without her bandmates. The singer’s “Lalisa,” a semi-self-titled hip-hop-leaning electronic number, opens on the all-encompassing ranking of the most-consumed songs in the U.S. at No. 84. That might not be the loftiest start this frame, but it’s historic nonetheless for the musician.

Lisa is now one of only a very small number of solo musicians from South Korea (she was born and raised in Thailand, but her career began in South Korea) to make it to the Hot 100 in America, and the number slims down when looking only at female artists working on their own. With her first win in the U.S., Lisa joins a club that now includes CL, Psy and both Agust D (or Suga) and J-Hope from BTS.

“Lalisa” was released as a standalone single, but fans could also stream and purchase the tune’s B-side “Money.” In South Korea, the cut was shared on a single album called, expectedly, Lalisa. That set debuted atop the Gaon albums chart, though it wasn’t eligible for similar lists in countries like America due to rules about length and availability. Instead, fans focused on the song itself, which has now become a real winner for her.

Lisa is now the second member of Blackpink to chart a hit on her own on the American Hot 100. She joins Rosé, who just a few months ago started her first solo single “On the Ground” at No. 70. Another singer in the group, Jennie, released her own tune without her bandmates titled, appropriately, “Solo,” though the track didn’t quite reach the Hot 100 when it dropped back in 2018.

“Lalisa” is one of at least seven debuts on this week’s Hot 100. Lisa joins musicians like Ed Sheeran, Lil Wayne, Kendrick Lamar and Willow in launching a new cut on the ranking this time around.

g979ypython.jpeg

In the video, Wrangler Matt Wright's two-year-old son Bonjo is seen pulling a giant python out in his garden pretty calmly. Wright shared the video on Instagram and now it has become a matter of right and wrong on the internet.

The toddler confidently grabs the python’s tail with both hands and begins pulling it. The python even tries to wrap itself around a wooden pillar that prompts Wright to ask Banjo to pull him out.

Netizens are accusing Wright of putting his son's life in danger but people who live in Australia felt that it was normal and it was okay to teach children from a very young age how to deal with such animals.

For the unversed, the Wright family is known for their regular adventures across Australia exploring untouched parts and often being encountered by huge crocs and helps with their relocation.

Kids love having pets be it cats, dogs, birds, etc but no parent would get their child a giant snake as a pet. Well, Australia’s Monster Croc Wrangler Matt Wright recently shared a video that took the internet by shock and netizens were not pleased.  Source

Georgia State Trooper's Use of Force in Viral Video Under Review

The use of force by a Georgia State trooper, who appeared to stomp on a suspect during an arrest, is now under review, the state's department of public safety says. Video of the incident quickly went viral, prompting a debate on social media.

The Georgia Department of Public Safety (DPS) said on October 3, a trooper with the Georgia State Patrol conducted a traffic stop because the driver was not wearing a seat belt.

The driver, identified as Jamarco Lucas, initially stopped, but then fled the traffic stop, initiating a pursuit, DPS said in a statement to CBS News.

The trooper followed Lucas, who exited his vehicle with his right hand inside his waistband and the trooper later saw a handgun fall out of his pants, officials said.

While following on foot, the trooper deployed his Taser twice, hitting Lucas once. When Lucas fell to the ground, he did not display his hands or follow verbal commands from the trooper, DPS says.

The video, originally posted on Twitter by "Atlanta Uncensored," shows Lucas on the ground. The trooper is seen hitting Lucas with his foot twice, dragging him across a sidewalk and putting his knee on him as he handcuffs him.

DPS said the trooper was unaware if Lucas was still armed and that he maneuvered as if he was attempting to get up again.

"The Trooper applied a foot strike to the center of the driver's body and then another to the driver's right-hand area which appeared to still be in the waistband," the DPS statement reads. "Once the Trooper observed the driver did not have a weapon, he placed the driver into custody."
