We recently caught up with the amazingly talented, national recording artist, Chekx to catch a glimpse of his musical journey. The Kingston native has shown his fans that not only is he a man of purpose, talent and passion behind his craft, but he is also a determined entrepreneur pursuing expansion of his brand and talent into the likes of Rasta Steve where he was featured on his album, “Like A Yardie” on the track titled “Cellular”. Sooner after, he collaborated with the 7 times Grammy considered, Budukusu on a hardcore dancehall track titled “Give Thanks”. Below were some of the questions we asked him.
1) How did your name come about?
My oldest brother is called Trex, so I mimicked the name to Chex but had to choose Chekx because of the Chexmix Cereal
2) When did you start your love for your craft?
I been singing in both the church and school choir since I was a child. My sister was always singing around me while my brothers always listened to various types of music of different genres, so music has always been around me.
3) What made you decide you wanted to pursue a career in music?
My friend, Jah Caution, who passed away. He was talented and I wanted to get him out there so I started producing a few beats and outsourcing other producers so I could gain him recognition. As we vibed together, I started constructing my own lyrics and flows to inspire him as he inspired me.
4) How do you usually come up with the concepts of your projects? Tell us the meaning and vision behind the four songs you've created?
It's all about life experiences. The 'past' what I been through as a person, the decisions I made then that curved me into the man I am now and where I see myself in the future. Also, seeing through other people's perspective and not just mine.
5) What are your plans for the future?
Achieving my objectives, goals, visons and dreams. Earning enough to take care of my family and loved ones. Giving back to the poor and needy.
His most recent video "Beautiful (Viral Video)" has already begun to make great progress hitting over 10,000 views in less than two weeks. Click play to see the visual behind the man giving hope to "feel good" music.
