Mayjah Payne’s “No Payne No Gain" Dominates the iTunes Rap Album Chart

It's an honor to speak with you today. You just recently hit the iTunes Hip-Hop/Rap Albums Chart at number 5 with your hit " No Payne No Gain". How does that feel?

I love the feeling! It felt amazing to sauté the streets like that! I feel like Young Goku in DragonballZ the first time he activated Super-Saiyan mode. It's lit, I’m walking' on sunshine!

What do you like most about making music?

I like the feeling that making music gives me. I love the creation process. When I make music, it puts me in my happy place. Especially when working with all the talented and genius people I got in my circle.

What inspired you to start playing and making music?

I got cut from varsity team basketball and one of the homies, @prod.c6ixx, got the demo version of FL Studio. It was the bootleg free version and when one door closed, another door opened. By the time the squad made it to the playoffs, they were bumpin my first beats and songs to the game. Jumping in different cyphers in LA and Leimert Park while also going to Da Poetry Lounge helped me step my bars up.

Describe your creative process when you write new music.

My process is there is no process. My style is like the “Tao Te Ching” aka ‘The Book of the Way’ - “Music in the soul can be heard by the universe.”

Who's your ideal musician to collaborate with and why?

I like working with creative geniuses. You know? The artists, producers, engineers, actors, painters, photographers, and dancers that got their own sauce and who are fearless are my favorite individuals to collaborate with. But an ideal musician would be Dr. Dre because he is one of the goats and our genius together would shock the world. Working with record-charting producers such as Sammy Issac, Smitty Soul, Kanobby, J Hawk, C6sixx, Mark W, Caydolf, TC The Creative, 2 Tall and Firas Quick was incredible.

Are there any musicians who inspire you? What qualities do you admire about them?

I grew up in Cali listening to Bay Area legends like Mac Dre, E-40, Too Short, The Jacka and the Mob Figaz. I learned a lot from Mob Jr., Shorty T, Sirr Jones and Big Freez who also put me up on game. I admire their hustle. Much respect to all the independent artists who made something happen! My favorite artists all speak their truth through music.

Which skills have you gained that help you perform effectively as a musician?

One of the greatest skills is to overcome your fear of failure. Once I went on the journey to learn the knowledge of self, I learned that I could master the universe once I have mastered myself. I’m always a work in progress but my greatest skill set is my persistence and charismatic spirit.

Which qualities do you think make a great musician?

The drive and determination to never give up or quit is a "mayjah" quality. The ability to keep going toward your goals and execute the vision is key. The ability to manifest is major. Constant improvement is what makes a great musician. The artists who align with the truth and express truth distinctly are the legends whose names we still remember and shoutout today.

What's the best piece of advice another musician ever gave you?

Shorty T (@Sthug84) told me, "It’s not about who you know, it’s about who knows you..."

What's next for you?

Making More music videos; creating more great music; sautéing more streets and connecting with more people.

Anyone you'd like to thank?

I want to thank everyone who believed in me, listened to my art, and downloaded any of my songs from way back in my school days at USC to "No Payne No Gain". I want to thank my family in Kansas City, my ancestors, and all my “souljahs” in California who have helped me on my journey. I want to thank anyone who ever paid me any attention.

Janet Jackson hints at new music after previewing unreleased ‘Love I Love’

"I've recorded so many songs that I've never released"

Janet Jackson has hinted that a new track featured in her recent self-titled documentary could be set for an official release.

The new Janet Jackson series, which premiered in the UK earlier this week, offers an unprecedented look into the star’s life and lengthy career.

As reported previously, an unreleased song titled ‘Love I Love’ soundtracks the closing credits of the final episode. “You got that love I love,” Jackson is heard singing in the snippet.

During an appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon yesterday evening (February 2), the vocalist was asked if fans will get to hear the track in its entirety and whether it was “hinting” at new material to come.

“It’s so funny because that’s… it was a song that I recorded, like, three years ago,” Jackson replied. “And, in the documentary, we thought, ‘Oh, this would be cool to put this song right here in this moment, this piece in the documentary’.

“And, everyone started reacting to it. So I dunno. We’ll just have to see. Maybe it’ll be a single.”

When quizzed on if there are more unreleased cuts in her archive that could potentially see the light of day, the star explained: “I’ve recorded so many songs that I’ve never released. So, we’ll see.”

Elsewhere in the conversation, Jackson said she was “very thankful” for the positive response to her new docuseries. “It was all such a surprise to me,” she told host Jimmy Fallon.

“I was not expecting any of it. I was just really so, so worried that people would find it boring, to be quite honest with you.”

Janet Jackson is available on Sky Documentaries and NOW in the UK. An official synopsis reads: “Janet has enjoyed immense success but also seen incredible tragedy.

Dolly Parton and Kelly Clarkson record “haunting” new version of ‘9 To 5’

It’ll feature in a forthcoming documentary titled 'Still Working 9 To 5', which premiers next month

Dolly Parton has joined forces with Kelly Clarkson for a “haunting” new version of ‘9 To 5’, it’s been revealed.

As Variety reports, the pair recorded a collaborative take on Parton’s classic 1980 single for an upcoming documentary called Still Working 9 To 5.

The film, which is co-directed/produced by Gary Lane, is due to premiere at this year’s SXSW in Austin, Texas.

Per an official descriptionStill Working 9 To 5 “examines the 40-year evolution of gender inequality and discrimination in the workplace” since 1980”.

It added: “[It] explores why workplace inequality 40 years later was never a laughing matter.”

“We could do a documentary just on the making of the duet,” Lane told Variety of Parton and Clarkson’s team-up.

Speaking of how the new version of ‘9 To 5’ differs from the much-loved original, co-director/producer Camille Hardman explained: “The first iteration, Dolly’s original version was very upbeat. There was a lot of hope I would say in the song.

“And this version is just a little bit melancholic,” she said, acknowledging the film’s themes of inequality.

Lane went on to tell the outlet that Parton had dubbed the new collaboration ‘9 To 5: The Slow Version’, saying that it’s “definitely slowed down and more haunting”. He added: “Kelly — you can’t believe how she changes it, too. It’s really mind blowing.”

Meanwhile, Dolly Parton recently shared the details of her new album ‘Run, Rose, Run’, which serves as a companion to her upcoming debut novel of the same name.

Previewed by the song ‘Big Dreams And Faded Jeans’, the 12-track record is due to arrive on March 4 via Butterfly Records in partnership with Ingrooves/UMG.

Michael Williams' “It’s Because I Love You” Hits the iTunes Charts with VIP Recordings

It's an honor to speak with you today. You just recently hit the USA iTunes Jazz song chart at number 7 with the hit "It's Because I Love You," Why don't you give us some details about you and your success. How did you get to where you are today?

It is an honor to be here today, and all of this is by the Grace of GOD. The success I am experiencing today, at this moment, could not have happened without the experience of past failures or shortcomings. As a little boy growing up, I remembered not only the harmonic sounds of quartet gospel, but the variety of music on the radio and the power it had to move people in joyfulness! In addition, while maturing into a young man, I gained an understanding that music was a magnet to increase the attraction in relationships; it was a bridge when sharing feelings on how to get closer or mend what was broken. Now, as an older gentleman, gained wisdom has helped to reshape my outlook on what’s important and how to make the most of my time and resources. Along the way, I have been blessed to learn and interact with music professionals and/or industry leaders. These interactions have guided and led me to this moment.

I'm sure your success has not come easily. What challenges have you had to overcome along the way?

Indeed, my success has not been easy. Becoming a better man and mastering self has been my ultimate challenge that I constantly face on a day-to-day basis. So, as I reflect on where I have come from, I know it was a matter of where I wanted to be and how I wanted to be. So, to sum up the challenges I have overcome, I believe I am faced with challenges every day. But having clarity on my purpose, I am able to see my way through and the challenges become steppingstones to success. By the grace and mercy of GOD, I am better equipped to deal with challenges.

Let's talk about the work you do. What do you specialize in and why should someone work with you over the competition?

I am specialized as a singer-songwriter, an indie artist and middle school science teacher. There was a moment in my life when music was a top priority. I was faced with the challenges of music being a top priority. Now, my life is more balanced, and I am a better steward of my time and resources, which enables me to exist outside of the competition. I do not create music to compete. When making music or collaborating, I exist in the moment to produce a great product. If the product is great, there will be a market share (demand) for the product. I believe my mindset and outlook helps me and guides me in collaborations and/or partnerships.

Speaking of success, what does the word mean to you?

Success to me can be a simple process. For example, when a person wakes up in the morning, they have an idea of what they will do for the day, whether it is called daily plans, tasks and/or goals. Once they decide to do what they were intending to do, they succeed in their efforts. So eventually, this success in their efforts multiples and breeds a successful life. At the end of day, the person can honestly say that they had a successful day or that they succeeded in completing some tasks and will pick up where they left off tomorrow. Self-reflection and a person’s responsiveness is at the heart of a successful life. With this understanding, a successful life is a sweatless life. The person is free from the anxiety and stress and can experience the joy of their work. So, success to me is when: 1) I'm intentional in my efforts to get things done; 2) I am okay with myself, if I was not able to complete all tasks within that day.

3) I am dedicating time for prayer and self-reflection to know how to respond to the incompleteness of my work (tasks); and lastly, I am content with the pace of my successful living.

Where do you see yourself in 5 years?

In the next 5 years, I see myself on pace with comprehensive planning in my music and business endeavors and teaching career. So, I am looking forward to developing more partnerships and building more relationships and friendships.

What's next for you?

Musically, I will continue to promote my new single, “It’s Because I Love You”. While promoting the new single, I will be writing some new material, recording and performing. Moreover, I will be staying on pace with my comprehensive plans.

LiLi Tokyo Dreamgirl released her newest single ‘Take Your Time’. Since collaborating with Amada Records, the Japanese star has been having remarkable success with each hit.

On her latest release, she has joined forces with Music Production House, Soundally, and rap pioneers “Nice and Smooth”.  With rich and stunning music aesthetics, this latest song brings a 90’s vibe with NY hip-hop flavor that has made it extremely charming for their fans.

In addition, the clever rhythms with the mixture of hype beats and smooth R&B vocals have added an amazing effect to the song. The angelic harmonies have enlightened the music’s overall performance and with the production handled by one of the top music producers in Tokyo, “Virg”, everything is phenomenal as ever.

“Virg” is the same music producer that is responsible for producing LiLi’s previous hit song, ‘Sushi’, which trended on the Billboard Chart for quite some time. It was also one of her highly acclaimed songs and ‘Take Your Time’ is set for the same course.

Our sources got in touch with LiLi Tokyo Dreamgirl and her team to gain some insights into this incredible release. Talking with our sources, we got to know how this exceptional song was created.

“It’s collaboration between talents from around the world, working on a single project yet bringing their expertise that has enriched it with sensational results. It was worth the creation and surely worth listening to,” said one of the executives from the team.

That is why we reached out to ‘Nice and Smooth’ for collaboration because we thought the duo would go perfectly with LiLi’s voice. Plus, we had Virg working on the project and everything went on perfectly,” the executive continued.

Janet Jackson Denies Having Baby with James DeBarge

Janet Jackson has rejected a long-standing rumour that she had a baby in the 1980s.

For many years, people have speculated that the Together Again hitmaker secretly welcomed a child with singer James DeBarge in the early '80s.

However, Janet shoots down the gossip in her new self-titled two-part documentary, which begins airing in the U.S. on Friday.

"I could never keep a child away from James. How could I keep a child from their father? I could never do that. That's not right," she says during one interview, according to Page Six.

Janet went on to note that the rumour began to circulate while she was on the set of the TV series Fame in 1984.

"A lot of the kids thought I was pregnant 'cause I had gained weight and I had started taking birth control pills," she continues. "And back then, you could pick up weight taking them, and that's what happened to me, so that rumor started going around." And Debbie Allen, who also appeared on the show, backed up Janet's story.

"Where was the baby? Nobody saw a baby. I mean, she was there with us all day, every day. Where was the baby?" she asks. Janet and James eloped in 1984, with their marriage annulled the following year. The superstar and her ex-husband, businessman Wissam Al Mana, are parents to five-year-old son Eissa.

Ray J Responds to Kanye West's Claim He Made Second Sex Tape with Kim Kardashian

Ray J has responded to Kanye West's claim that he made a second sex tape with Kim Kardashian.

During a recent interview with Hollywood Unlocked, the rapper alluded to the existence of a second tape between his estranged wife Kim and her ex-boyfriend Ray J. He claimed that he obtained a laptop from the singer and it contained unreleased intimate footage of the former couple together.

The SKIMS founder denied the existence of a second tape in a statement earlier this week, and now, Ray J has weighed in. He seemingly addressed the allegations via Twitter on Wednesday by simply writing, "This needs to stop. I also have kids."

The Love & Hip Hop star's manager, David Weintraub, also shared a statement to E! News in which he declared that his client will not be addressing matters from the past.

"Ray J is focused on his children, technology company Raycon and his film/tv/music career at the moment, he only wishes Kim & Kanye the best in all of their endeavours and will not be discussing or addressing the past," the statement reads. The music star filmed the infamous sex tape with Kim when they were dating in the early 2000s and it went public in 2007. In a statement, Kim's representative insisted that the computer and hard drive that were collected contained no unseen sexual content. "Kim remains firm in her belief that there is no new second tape that exists. After 20 years, she truly wishes to move on from this chapter (and) focus instead on the positive things she continues to do as a mother, entrepreneur, and advocate for justice reform," the rep concluded.

Ray J shares two children with his estranged wife Princess Love, while Kim and Kanye have four children.

Fugees completely cancel ‘The Score’ 25th anniversary reunion tour

The ongoing coronavirus pandemic has made touring conditions difficult for the legendary group

Fugees have announced that they’ve had to cancel their long-awaited reunion tour.

The hugely influential hip-hop group – Ms. Lauryn HillWyclef Jean and Pras Michel – announced in September last year that they would reunite for a 2021 world tour celebrating 25 years of their classic 1996 album ‘The Score’.

In October, the group announced that they would be rescheduling the tour’s original run of dates to 2022 in order to ensure “the best chance that all cities on the tour will be fully open” following some of them being restricted due to COVID measures being put in place.

Today (January 21), however, the New Jersey trio informed fans that the tour won’t be going ahead at all due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

“We anticipate and understand disappointment but our anniversary tour will not be able to happen,” the Fugees wrote in a statement shared to social media. “The continued Covid pandemic has made touring conditions difficult, and we want to make sure we keep our fans and ourselves healthy and safe.

“And idea sparked to honour and celebrate this 25th anniversary of The Score but we see now it may not currently be our time for revisiting this past work, We’re grateful for the special night we did get to share with some of you in New York, with that rare live moment.”

The group concluded: “If opportunity, public safety, and scheduling allow, we hope to be able to revisit this again sometime soon. THANK YOU for all your love and support throughout the years.”

The series of worldwide arena shows were set to begin last November including a show scheduled for December 6 at The O2 in London.

Ahead of the tour kicking off, the Fugees gave fans a taste of what they could expect with a special pop-up show at The Rooftop at Pier 17 venue in New York City on September 22.

At the show, the trio played a nine-song set featuring a host of tracks from ‘The Score’ as well as their famous version of Lori Lieberman’s ‘Killing Me Softly With His Song’ and Bob Marley & The Wailers classic ‘No Woman, No Cry’, which closed the set.

“The Fugees have a complex but impactful history,” Ms. Lauryn Hill said of the group in a statement at the time of the reunion announcement. “I wasn’t even aware the 25th anniversary had arrived until someone brought it to my attention.

“I decided to honour this significant project, its anniversary, and the fans who appreciated the music by creating a peaceful platform where we could unite, perform the music we loved, and set an example of reconciliation for the world.”

Prior to the tour’s scheduled kick-off, it was reported that the international dates could potentially have been in jeopardy due to an ongoing legal case involving band member Pras.

After a slow start and mixed reviews, his Bat Out of a Hell (1977) became one of the top-selling albums in history, with worldwide sales of more than 40 million copies.

His illustrious career included hits such as Paradise by the Dashboard Light, Two Out of Three Ain’t Bad, and I’d Do Anything for Love (But I Won’t Do That).

He acquired his nickname Meat Loaf as a teenager, the alleged origins ranging from his weight to a favourite recipe of his mother’s.

Musicians, friends and fans reacted to the death on social media.

“R.I.P Meatloaf. Love and prayers to all his family and close friends,” singer Boy George wrote on Twitter, with fellow singer Jeff Scott Soto calling him “a true inspiration”.

“I hope paradise is as you remember it from the dashboard light, Meat Loaf,” actor and broadcaster Stephen Fry wrote.

Meet Gordon Andres, The Music Executive Taking The Industry by a Storm

Gordon Andres talks about building his own company and doing what he truly loves which lead him to become one of the youngest SR VPs of Amada Records. He discusses how digital marketing is not an option, it is the future of music marketing.

We had the privilege to sit down with Gordon and ask what his advice is for young budding artists. Gordon stated “If you’re a singer, musician, or in a band, educating yourself about the music business and music marketing is so important. Marketing presides over all promotional activities your band does and is second only to the music you create”.
When Gordon Andres was a musician and even when he was beginning his music business career, he admits to having the wrong idea about music marketing. “I often confused marketing with promotion or the day-to-day activity that is required for a successful artist.” After working with hundreds of artists for his own company, Gordon Andres Corp, and collaborating with major artists signed to major record labels, Andres learned that marketing begins with the brand an artist creates. It’s imperative for artists to get to the root of what they are truly about, and then convey that to the “market” they are trying to reach. Great artists understand why they do what they do and know how they want to be perceived.

We asked Gordon for a few tips for artists and here’s what he had to say:

“1. Focus on your brand, and why it’s special.

2. Come up with cool and effective ways to get your message to the people you think would enjoy your music.

3. Focus on what your brand stands for and how you want it to be perceived.

4. Always respond to your loyal fans and supporters. They are your super fans and they share, tell, fight and defend you. Gary got your back. Loyalty is key.

5. Rinse, Repeat”.

For those who don’t know Gordon Andres, or have not heard of him. He had the privilege of working on projects that gave him the opportunity to influence or contribute to songs with artists such as Eyeoneyez, Rick Ross, Gucci Mane, 42 Dugg, Young Dro, TI, Mac Boney, Asian Doll, and many more. Gordon has effectively charted numerous artist on the iTunes, Amazon, and Billboard charts while building their social media presence.

Gordon stated that since the pandemic began, every record labels’ marketing team has been throwing around the same buzzword phrase: “getting creative”. Some digital strategies have been straightforward. Labels that were invested in marketing tactics on TikTok have upped their game recently, as the platform is enjoying record popularity with over 300 million downloads in the first quarter of 2020. Other marketing executives are experimenting with having artists do intimate Instagram Live sessions.

Gordon Andres has worked with many artists and labels to drive content such as at-home shows; media appearances on radio and press; and more bespoke opportunities similar to Scott’s Fortnite concert.

Amada Records’ CEO truly believes that the young Gordon Andres has the ideas connected to a more digital world and understands what the new generation of marketing should look like and is more than capable of getting the job done.
