GRINDWEEKLY Magazine Interview with Billboard Charting Music Producer K Mac Beats

It's an honor to speak with you today. Why don't you give us some details about you and your success. How did you get to where you are today?

Thank you I'm grateful to be here. I've been working hard juggling a full time job and producing beats, sending out tracks as much as possible. It all changed when I got a message from Mrs. Jones to Amada records and linked up with Sebastian. We put a track out "fire it up" which ended up charting #3 on iTunes. From there I was involved on a compilation album called Red Devil which made its way onto the Billboard compilation albums list and reached #25. Why should someone work with you over the competition?

I think that we all should be working at this together, artist with artist showing support for one another, I want them to know that I'm in this for the both of us and if we vibe together we should work together.

What's your best piece of advice for readers who desire to find success in their life?

Be consistent, get up in the morning and work on your skills everyday so you can stay sharp like a chef’s knife, find work so you can save that money and later on invest it into yourself for your goals, take some risks, fail and try some more, keep going and never give in.

Kelly Derrickson’s “I Am” Dominates the iTunes Charts

You just recently charted #11 on the Country iTunes Album Chart and #77 on the All Genres Album Chart with your album "I Am". How does that feel?

Pretty damn good since this album was written a few years back and is still getting so much traction. It is a very important piece of work for me and all who were involved in the creation of I Am as it tells the history of my First Nation people and the love we have of the earth.

What do you like most about making music?

I love everything about music… I love the process of creation; I love being in the studio and recording more than anything and seeing such an important subject come to life. But mostly I love sharing my music with people and hearing how it changed their lives.

What inspired you to start playing and making music?

Music has been on my soul and heart since I was born. I knew I wanted to sing from the first moment. Music is in my blood, was always around me growing up my family played banjos fiddles and guitars.

Describe your creative process when you write new music.

I don’t have any way to describe my creative process. Sometimes it flows like water coming from the top other times I Have to dig deeper. My dad has been a huge mentor for me in all my subject matters. I believe the songs ultimately come from The Creator.

Who's your ideal musician to collaborate with and why?

I have written this last album with my boyfriend benny and some great Nashville friends and co-writers. Benny is a drummer and I like working with a drummer’s brain. Been very inspiring.

Are there any musicians who inspire you? What qualities do you admire about them?

I’m inspired by musicians who are so passionate about their work. It’s a love that we as musicians would die if we didn’t have that outlet.

Which skills have you gained that help you perform effectively as a musician?

I think it’s important to Be able to take constructive criticism. As a musician you’ll get 100 nos before you’ll get one yes. And to keep practicing and getting better at your craft. And listening to all kinds of music enjoy music like you enjoy the flavors of different foods.

Which qualities do you think make a great musician?

It takes dedication and love to make a great musician it has to come from the heart and soul, or it doesn’t mean anything. You Either got it or you don’t.

Is there another musician you've mentored or trained? Describe what you've done to help them.

I Have mentored and worked with many younger kids and teens that are trying to get into music. I’ve given them singing lessons and lots of encouragement. It’s an amazing feeling to see someone love something as much as you did many years ago and watch them excel!

What's the best piece of advice another musician ever gave you?

Music makes the world go around. Keep going!

What's next for you?

Next, I’m in the process of preparing for album #3.

What other awards have you won?

I have won best country artist a Coachella valley music awards, best new artist at The Indigenous Music Awards. I won Best Female Artist two years in a row at The Native native American Music Awards ( Nammys) as well as Best Music Video for I Am.

Anyone you'd like to thank?

I’d like to thank The Creator for giving me a voice and a platform to change people’s minds and hearts.

Fake Donda 2 rises up US iTunes charts

As Kanye West’s ‘Donda 2’ album continues to be exclusive to his own Stem Player device, the rapper’s other albums are doing well on other services because of the hype around the new record. A quick look at the US iTunes hip hop chart shows he has four albums in the top 20. Although, just below ‘Late Registration’ at number eighteen, you’ll spot ‘Donda 2’ by… Wayne Kest.

While the official release of ‘Donda 2’ rides high on the piracy charts – fans largely unwilling to shell out $200 to buy a Stem Player to legally hear it – it seems that someone else has taken advantage of less observant people looking to listen to the new record.

Those who have been following the rollout of West’s new album closely will know that ‘Donda 2’ (currently) has sixteen tracks, runs for over an hour, and features guests including Migos, Alicia Keys, Travis Scott and Future. Also, it’s definitely not available on any legit streaming and download services.

Still, while it may have fewer tracks, a sub-30 minute runtime, and guest names you’ve never heard of, the Wayne Kest album that has crept onto iTunes and the streaming services does share many of the same track titles as West’s version. Anyone listening to it will discover that it’s completely instrumental, though, which should be the final big warning sign that this is not the album you’re looking for.

The Wayne Kest album seems to be a collection of quickly thrown together tracks, possibly pulled from some sort of production music library, which are not of the highest quality. Still, it appears that people are buying it, which means that someone is making money off of it.

There is a producer going by the name of Wayne Kest who has released a number of singles in the last couple of years, although it doesn’t appear to be them who has put out the fake ‘Donda 2’ album. More likely this is someone who spotted an opportunity to fill a hole left by Kanye West, as he refuses to allow licensed services to sell and stream his new album.

All things considered, while West may be pleased with the money he’s made selling Stem Players, it does seem that the rollout of ‘Donda 2’ has been a real boost for music piracy and other sneaky opportunism.

Socal Barbieee’s “Breakthrough” Hits no. 21 on the iTunes Charts

It's an honor to speak with you Socal Barbieee. You recently hit the USA iTunes Hip-Hop/Rap Albums Chart at number 21 with your hit album " Breakthrough,” Why don't you give us some details about you and your success. How did you get to where you are today?

"Well, I was in a female group for a year before we broke up. I decided to continue and pursue my career as a solo artist and I released my first single "unleashed" along with the video, which had over 20K views. I think that's one of my biggest successes so far in this music industry. This motivated me and gave me confidence to put my music together. "The breakthrough" shows how creative I am as a solo artist today".

I'm sure your success has not come easily. What challenges have you had to overcome along the way?

"I've had to look out for a lot of scammers in the music industry. Getting into the music industry can be complicated at first because I had to learn not everyone is out for your best interest. I've also experienced transphobia in the hip hop culture, which can be complicating getting projects done. I’m happy I never let this stop me, because now I am running into the right people who want to work and make music".

Speaking of success, what does the word mean to you?

"Success to me is accomplished goals, and just doing what you want to do and making it happen. Success will always come".

Let's talk about the work you do. What do you specialize in and why should someone work with you over the competition?

"I'm a natural born entertainer. I write, I dance. I love creating vision to my music. I would even like to collaborate with other artists. I’m an artist that will break boundaries and barriers in my music. I’m a unique rap artist who wants to perform, connect, and keep making music for my fans".

What are your goals in the music industry? What's next for you?

"I want to perform on bigger shows and platforms in this industry. I have so many projects coming up, including the latest release of my album "The Breakthrough". What's next for me are interviews, and reaching out to radio shows for promotions, plus paid shows and guest appearances. I love this music industry. I won’t let up".

Melissa B. Bodies National Anthem Performance At Barclays Center Again

Melissa Bailey, known famously for her stage name “Melissa B.” is a USA #1 Billboard R&B / Pop charted artist, speaker, and actress. She is rising up the UK Charts, peaking at #2, as well as rapidly growing in the China Market with over 100k downloads.

This singer brought a sensation to the crowd when she performed the national anthem during the Celtics vs Nets Game. The New Yorker stunned everyone with her amazing vocals and a voice filled with passion and melody before the game. She began taking interest in singing when she was just 5 years old. Knowing that she would become a singer, Melissa kept growing her passion and worked hard to achieve her glory.

As a child, her inspiration was herself and Whitney Houston. Whitney was an inspiration because of “her grace on the stage and how she composed herself as a lady on the stage. I wanted to compose myself like her and she surely inspired me to become a graceful singer,” Melissa added.

Melissa is truly a big fan of Whitney Houston and fans have even termed her Whitney’s potential child in case Janet Jackson and Whitney Houston had one. She’s not only passionate about her music but is also focusing on making changes in the music industry.

Melissa B’s latest release “Physical” is making the headlines and so, sources got to know about it from the artist herself. “I was advised to hit the audience from the first note, taking the stage and then commanding the audience with my voice. That is the best advice I would say I got. As for my music, I tend to create something that is going to last forever. Even if you listen to it after 5-10 years, you’re still going to get the same alluring vibes you got it from day 1,” she added.

“I want to see more indie label artists in the industry. If I had a chance to change things in the current industry, it would be motivating artists to launch their indie labels. This would allow the lost ones to know how to progress in this domain and working on the right aspects of this business. That is what I would love to change and would surely work on changing in the current industry,” Melissa said.

As for inspirations, Melissa gives credit the most to her father. “One of the best things my father did was to teach me to stick with combining music and technology. This is my charm that makes me different from the rest of the music artists in the industry and I’m proud that I listened to my father,” she stated. Melissa B’s performance at the game was no less than any show-stopper and certainly gave her fans a treat for the good.

Heatseeker Chronicles Compilation Soars to Top 20 Hip Hop iTunes Charts

WWMG, Amada Records, and SS Global Entertainment are at it again, as Industry executive, Tiffany Gaines, business partner, Eric Jones as well as the renowned DJ Choice have released yet another great roster of talent for the new quarter. The project titled “Heatseeker Chronicles” shot up the iTunes Hip Hop chart Monday afternoon, landing at number 11.

The compilation features acts from legendary lineage such as the son of iconic, Nate Dogg, “Lil Nate Dogg”, who paid tribute to his father and the late, great Gerald Levert on the song titled, “Casanova”, as well as “Verse The Legend” known for his association with the Godfather of his camp, Thelonious Monk. In addition, Rebelyus of “Seed of 6ix” also graced the project with the song “Salt and Pepper” produced by Billboard charting and award-winning producer, Faided. Last but not least, we even added an international gem to the project with the artist, producer, and DJ “Kan” the song, “In Your Eyes” produced by Super Sako.

“What I love about this compilation, is that it features a diverse group of talented artists and producers”. Says Tiffany. “Fashion the Rapper, Streetza Ria, The Lonegun and Keewi Making Millions additionally bring HEAT to the table and that’s what makes it so unique. It’s not just a project where every song sounds the same because of the popular trend, or about who’s more popular and who’s not. Instead, it’s about everyone showcasing a talent that represents their own original creativity and sound. I could speak about every single artist and why you should follow them, but I would rather you press play and find out yourself. From flow, voice, drum patterns, melody, including an instrumental, by Kendrick Martinez, that ends the compilation that many may miss in the essence of appreciating simplicity… sometimes it’s not about what the words are saying in a song, in fact, you’d be surprised if just you just sat and listened to an instrumental and let the music itself take you on a captivating journey. Ultimately, it’s a great body of work that we hope can allow fans from all walks of life to enjoy”.

Grindweekly Interview with Rap Music Influencer and Entrepreneur Its64boy

It's an honor to speak with you.  Why don't you give us some details about you and your success? How did you get to where you are today?

I am Its64boy, Richmond Virginia’s Super Gold Producer & Gold artist on Spotify. I also attended Norfolk State University where I majored in Mass Communications and Minored in Music Technology. This was a great experience because I was able to build connections with people from different parts of the world. My project Traumatized Life Story EP was also charted on Apple iTunes as #16. I also own a record label, Stackin Up Entertainment and we offer major distribution through EMPIRE. At the age of 4, I watched my pops Dj on the 1’s and 2’s and I developed a passion for music at that time. My pops used to spin records from Dr. Dre, The Chronic, The Beatles, and all the way down to Rick James and Smokey Robinson. I was intrigued by the sounds and that’s how I got to where I am today.

I'm sure your success has not come easily.  What challenges have you had to overcome along the way?

The challenges that I had to overcome along the way was finding solid individuals that you can trust in this industry that will have your best interest at heart. I realized that you have to create a situation for you to become successful. People become believers based on what they see.

Speaking of success, what does the word mean to you?

Success to me means to have a roof over my family head, life insurance policies, retirement plans, emergency savings, and a mutual fund so that my kids will have options in life when they get older.

Let's talk about the work you do. What do you specialize in and why should someone work with you over the competition?

I specialize in Music Production, Engineering, Composing, Graphic Design & Marketing and someone should work with me over the competition because whatever I say I’m going to take care of, I do it. I’m just good business all around.

What are your goals in the music industry? What's next for you?

My goals are to continue building lifelong business relationships and produce for more mainstream artists. My goal is to produce records and submit them to movies, commercials, or video games for other placements. My company, Stackin Up Entertainment will be releasing our 2nd movie sometime this year, Deceptive Directed by or Videographer, Kareem Rich Jr. I have a project coming out with my brother Bigg Wall, Address the Culture University the Beginning. I’m rocking on the beats and on the artist side, which will release on all digital platforms, February 11th, 2022

Nicki Minaj & Lil Baby’s “Do We Have A Problem?” Rockets To #1 On US iTunes Song Sales Chart

“Do We Have A Problem” flies up the US iTunes chart.

Nicki Minaj’s “Do We Have A Problem? (featuring Lil Baby)” is making an unsurprisingly strong opening day statement on the US iTunes store.

The song, which launched late Thursday/early Friday, rocketed to #1 on the store’s all-genre song sales chart shortly after release. It remains atop the listing as of press time at 1:25AM ET Friday.

“Do We Have A Problem?” seized the throne from the megahit “Encanto” single “We Don’t Talk About Bruno.”

In addition to sharing the audio, Minaj released a 9-minute cinematic music video for the new single.

Mayjah Payne’s “No Payne No Gain" Dominates the iTunes Rap Album Chart

It's an honor to speak with you today. You just recently hit the iTunes Hip-Hop/Rap Albums Chart at number 5 with your hit " No Payne No Gain". How does that feel?

I love the feeling! It felt amazing to sauté the streets like that! I feel like Young Goku in DragonballZ the first time he activated Super-Saiyan mode. It's lit, I’m walking' on sunshine!

What do you like most about making music?

I like the feeling that making music gives me. I love the creation process. When I make music, it puts me in my happy place. Especially when working with all the talented and genius people I got in my circle.

What inspired you to start playing and making music?

I got cut from varsity team basketball and one of the homies, @prod.c6ixx, got the demo version of FL Studio. It was the bootleg free version and when one door closed, another door opened. By the time the squad made it to the playoffs, they were bumpin my first beats and songs to the game. Jumping in different cyphers in LA and Leimert Park while also going to Da Poetry Lounge helped me step my bars up.

Describe your creative process when you write new music.

My process is there is no process. My style is like the “Tao Te Ching” aka ‘The Book of the Way’ - “Music in the soul can be heard by the universe.”

Who's your ideal musician to collaborate with and why?

I like working with creative geniuses. You know? The artists, producers, engineers, actors, painters, photographers, and dancers that got their own sauce and who are fearless are my favorite individuals to collaborate with. But an ideal musician would be Dr. Dre because he is one of the goats and our genius together would shock the world. Working with record-charting producers such as Sammy Issac, Smitty Soul, Kanobby, J Hawk, C6sixx, Mark W, Caydolf, TC The Creative, 2 Tall and Firas Quick was incredible.

Are there any musicians who inspire you? What qualities do you admire about them?

I grew up in Cali listening to Bay Area legends like Mac Dre, E-40, Too Short, The Jacka and the Mob Figaz. I learned a lot from Mob Jr., Shorty T, Sirr Jones and Big Freez who also put me up on game. I admire their hustle. Much respect to all the independent artists who made something happen! My favorite artists all speak their truth through music.

Which skills have you gained that help you perform effectively as a musician?

One of the greatest skills is to overcome your fear of failure. Once I went on the journey to learn the knowledge of self, I learned that I could master the universe once I have mastered myself. I’m always a work in progress but my greatest skill set is my persistence and charismatic spirit.

Which qualities do you think make a great musician?

The drive and determination to never give up or quit is a "mayjah" quality. The ability to keep going toward your goals and execute the vision is key. The ability to manifest is major. Constant improvement is what makes a great musician. The artists who align with the truth and express truth distinctly are the legends whose names we still remember and shoutout today.

What's the best piece of advice another musician ever gave you?

Shorty T (@Sthug84) told me, "It’s not about who you know, it’s about who knows you..."

What's next for you?

Making More music videos; creating more great music; sautéing more streets and connecting with more people.

Anyone you'd like to thank?

I want to thank everyone who believed in me, listened to my art, and downloaded any of my songs from way back in my school days at USC to "No Payne No Gain". I want to thank my family in Kansas City, my ancestors, and all my “souljahs” in California who have helped me on my journey. I want to thank anyone who ever paid me any attention.

Finally, how can people connect with you?

The new Janet Jackson series, which premiered in the UK earlier this week, offers an unprecedented look into the star’s life and lengthy career.

As reported previously, an unreleased song titled ‘Love I Love’ soundtracks the closing credits of the final episode. “You got that love I love,” Jackson is heard singing in the snippet.

During an appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon yesterday evening (February 2), the vocalist was asked if fans will get to hear the track in its entirety and whether it was “hinting” at new material to come.

“It’s so funny because that’s… it was a song that I recorded, like, three years ago,” Jackson replied. “And, in the documentary, we thought, ‘Oh, this would be cool to put this song right here in this moment, this piece in the documentary’.

“And, everyone started reacting to it. So I dunno. We’ll just have to see. Maybe it’ll be a single.”

When quizzed on if there are more unreleased cuts in her archive that could potentially see the light of day, the star explained: “I’ve recorded so many songs that I’ve never released. So, we’ll see.”

Elsewhere in the conversation, Jackson said she was “very thankful” for the positive response to her new docuseries. “It was all such a surprise to me,” she told host Jimmy Fallon.

“I was not expecting any of it. I was just really so, so worried that people would find it boring, to be quite honest with you.”

Janet Jackson is available on Sky Documentaries and NOW in the UK. An official synopsis reads: “Janet has enjoyed immense success but also seen incredible tragedy.

Dolly Parton and Kelly Clarkson record “haunting” new version of ‘9 To 5’

It’ll feature in a forthcoming documentary titled 'Still Working 9 To 5', which premiers next month

Dolly Parton has joined forces with Kelly Clarkson for a “haunting” new version of ‘9 To 5’, it’s been revealed.

As Variety reports, the pair recorded a collaborative take on Parton’s classic 1980 single for an upcoming documentary called Still Working 9 To 5.

The film, which is co-directed/produced by Gary Lane, is due to premiere at this year’s SXSW in Austin, Texas.

Per an official descriptionStill Working 9 To 5 “examines the 40-year evolution of gender inequality and discrimination in the workplace” since 1980”.

It added: “[It] explores why workplace inequality 40 years later was never a laughing matter.”

“We could do a documentary just on the making of the duet,” Lane told Variety of Parton and Clarkson’s team-up.

Speaking of how the new version of ‘9 To 5’ differs from the much-loved original, co-director/producer Camille Hardman explained: “The first iteration, Dolly’s original version was very upbeat. There was a lot of hope I would say in the song.

“And this version is just a little bit melancholic,” she said, acknowledging the film’s themes of inequality.

Lane went on to tell the outlet that Parton had dubbed the new collaboration ‘9 To 5: The Slow Version’, saying that it’s “definitely slowed down and more haunting”. He added: “Kelly — you can’t believe how she changes it, too. It’s really mind blowing.”

Meanwhile, Dolly Parton recently shared the details of her new album ‘Run, Rose, Run’, which serves as a companion to her upcoming debut novel of the same name.

Previewed by the song ‘Big Dreams And Faded Jeans’, the 12-track record is due to arrive on March 4 via Butterfly Records in partnership with Ingrooves/UMG.

Michael Williams' “It’s Because I Love You” Hits the iTunes Charts with VIP Recordings

It's an honor to speak with you today. You just recently hit the USA iTunes Jazz song chart at number 7 with the hit "It's Because I Love You," Why don't you give us some details about you and your success. How did you get to where you are today?

It is an honor to be here today, and all of this is by the Grace of GOD. The success I am experiencing today, at this moment, could not have happened without the experience of past failures or shortcomings. As a little boy growing up, I remembered not only the harmonic sounds of quartet gospel, but the variety of music on the radio and the power it had to move people in joyfulness! In addition, while maturing into a young man, I gained an understanding that music was a magnet to increase the attraction in relationships; it was a bridge when sharing feelings on how to get closer or mend what was broken. Now, as an older gentleman, gained wisdom has helped to reshape my outlook on what’s important and how to make the most of my time and resources. Along the way, I have been blessed to learn and interact with music professionals and/or industry leaders. These interactions have guided and led me to this moment.

I'm sure your success has not come easily. What challenges have you had to overcome along the way?

Indeed, my success has not been easy. Becoming a better man and mastering self has been my ultimate challenge that I constantly face on a day-to-day basis. So, as I reflect on where I have come from, I know it was a matter of where I wanted to be and how I wanted to be. So, to sum up the challenges I have overcome, I believe I am faced with challenges every day. But having clarity on my purpose, I am able to see my way through and the challenges become steppingstones to success. By the grace and mercy of GOD, I am better equipped to deal with challenges.

Let's talk about the work you do. What do you specialize in and why should someone work with you over the competition?

I am specialized as a singer-songwriter, an indie artist and middle school science teacher. There was a moment in my life when music was a top priority. I was faced with the challenges of music being a top priority. Now, my life is more balanced, and I am a better steward of my time and resources, which enables me to exist outside of the competition. I do not create music to compete. When making music or collaborating, I exist in the moment to produce a great product. If the product is great, there will be a market share (demand) for the product. I believe my mindset and outlook helps me and guides me in collaborations and/or partnerships.

Speaking of success, what does the word mean to you?

Success to me can be a simple process. For example, when a person wakes up in the morning, they have an idea of what they will do for the day, whether it is called daily plans, tasks and/or goals. Once they decide to do what they were intending to do, they succeed in their efforts. So eventually, this success in their efforts multiples and breeds a successful life. At the end of day, the person can honestly say that they had a successful day or that they succeeded in completing some tasks and will pick up where they left off tomorrow. Self-reflection and a person’s responsiveness is at the heart of a successful life. With this understanding, a successful life is a sweatless life. The person is free from the anxiety and stress and can experience the joy of their work. So, success to me is when: 1) I'm intentional in my efforts to get things done; 2) I am okay with myself, if I was not able to complete all tasks within that day.

3) I am dedicating time for prayer and self-reflection to know how to respond to the incompleteness of my work (tasks); and lastly, I am content with the pace of my successful living.

Where do you see yourself in 5 years?

In the next 5 years, I see myself on pace with comprehensive planning in my music and business endeavors and teaching career. So, I am looking forward to developing more partnerships and building more relationships and friendships.

What's next for you?

Musically, I will continue to promote my new single, “It’s Because I Love You”. While promoting the new single, I will be writing some new material, recording and performing. Moreover, I will be staying on pace with my comprehensive plans.
