The anthemic, new wave-inspired track marks the first taste of the London four-piece’s upcoming debut album, a release date for which is yet to be confirmed.

“This song is about me addressing my constant indecision in the modern information age and being overwhelmed by endless choices,” explained lead singer Allan Harrod in a statement.

Mike Dean denies he’s quit Kanye West’s ‘Donda’ project after calling it “toxic”

"I haven't quit anything. The album continues"

mike-dean-kanye-west-696x442.jpg

Legendary producer and longtime Kanye West collaborator Mike Dean has denied that he has quit working on the rapper’s frequently delayed new album, ‘Donda’.

Dean posted a number of vague but seemingly frustrated tweets earlier today (August 15), including “fuck it” and “good to be at the house,” before replying to a comment suggesting that West’s album rollout that had seemed “toxic” to those following its progress. “Toxic. That’s it,” the producer responded in agreement.

Elsewhere Dean – not to be confused with the Premier League referee of the same name – tweeted: “I left Monday. Secretly. Had to get away.”

Now, the producer has clarified that he is still involved with West’s upcoming record in a new tweet. “I haven’t quit anything,” he tweeted. “The album continues. Lol. People read too much into tweets. Lol.”

Kanye’s follow-up to 2019’s ‘Jesus Is King’which had initially been set to arrive in July 2020, was scheduled to finally be released after West’s first public listening event at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta last month.

The album failed to materialise, however, with the record then expected to drop after the second listening event at the stadium, which took place on August 5.

With the album still unreleased as of today (August 13), West’s fans are now looking at a potential release date of August 20 after previously hoping for its arrival on Sunday (August 15).

West’s second Atlanta listening event last week was Apple Music’s biggest-ever livestream, with the broadcast attracting over 5.4 million viewers on the streaming service.

IN-L Drops New Single, My Money Good

inl.jpg

Nate Lamont, professionally known as IN-L is a multi-genre music producer and beatmaker. His original sound comes from his cross-blend of cultures. "I'm originally from Miami, Fl., with half of my family being from Nassau, Bahamas, and the other half from Miami," he explained. So many of his tracks have an island flair. Now he lives just outside of Atlanta, Georgia, a hotbed for trap music, southern hip hop, and progressive R&B. He has also produced tracks with everything from EDM to country vibes.

My Money Good.jpg

He recently dropped a number of new instrumentals which he calls, "Authentic Fire". One of my favorites is a hip-hop track entitled, Your Ferries Coming. It has a booming bass-filled beat.  It's clear from the production quality and experimental feel that IN-L knows and enjoys what he's doing. "My love for music spans over 20 years!" he said.

YFC.jpg

Another dope song is Brain, Heart, Nerve.  The track has a head-nodding international feel. He has a number of tracks, each with a different feel. "This is the first time I have professionally pursued my longtime passion. I like to personally play the background and let my music lead the way, and be judged on its own." And you can be the judge and jury. All his music, he says, "is for anyone who wants it."  That attitude is why he is a producer who deserves some more shine.

BHN.jpg

IN-L says, "I believe that I stand out because I was born with an ear for music. I can arrange and create different genres of sounds that cross barriers."

Vincent Lyn Promotes World Peace On New Single Featuring Melissa B.

VINCENT LYN

VINCENT LYN

Just Imagine — that on earth all human beings were united as one, living together in harmony. We all know how beautiful that would be. What a wonderful world it could be…

ab67616d0000b273b2dd8a3d9cea983e88e210e6.jpg

We were able to speak to Vincent Lyn about his recent release with Melissa B and here is what he said:

“Four years ago my colleague Melissa Bailey (Melissa B), an incredibly talented singer/songwriter/performer and fellow Grammy artist approached me and said, “Why don’t we write a song about global peace?” 2017 was a devastating year with natural disasters such as catastrophic floods, wildfires, and earthquakes affecting millions across the globe. So, it certainly seemed like then was the right time. And so I sat down at the piano and jotted down some chord changes and a bare melody, and over the course of a few weeks had something that I liked. I passed it along to Melissa and she started writing some lyrics. Months passed and we threw ideas back and forth and made some brief changes and then Melissa called up a friend Armand Hutton who collaborated with her on adding some changes to the lyrics. But the song sat collecting dust, weeks went by, then months and years passed.”

NY-DG005_NYLYN_M_20141003172947.jpg

Fast forward 2021 and those natural disasters have increased ten-fold. COVID-19 continues to ravage the world. We are seeing not only a 100+ year pandemic but also the effects of climate change that we can no longer as a global society just brush under the rug. Even more depressingly, the study from the Institute for Economics and Peace (IEP) shows that the world has gotten progressively less peaceful since 2017. Out of 162 countries, 151 of the world’s nations are currently involved in some form of conflict. It is sad to say, but there are currently ongoing wars in 40 countries, most of them in the Middle East, North West Asia, and Sub-Saharan Africa, and a major ongoing drug war in Mexico.

MELISSA B.

MELISSA B.

If there ever was a time to release a song about global peace and uniting people now was the appropriate time. Look around, the world is on the precipice of catastrophic proportions, unlike anything we’ve seen in over 100 years. COVID -19 has changed the landscape of our world. Many parts of the world are still locked down and many of us took true value in the solitude and made good use of the time. For example, I wrote a book on my humanitarian experiences that has just been published with Barnes & Noble — Childhood Lost.

Just Imagine People United then rose from the ashes. It woke us all up to the calamities ravaging our world, the timing was right, the stars were aligned, and we all felt that the release of Just Imagine People United needed to happen. It took on a globe-trotting production and connection of artists, musicians, producers all over the world. A collaboration was made with colleague Nuno Olim Marote who has an NGO in Portugal called Give Peace A Voice and together with Lyn’s international foundation We Can Save Children an amazing initiative was formed.

A gomesi or busuuti is a colorful floor-length dress. It is the most commonly used costume for women in Buganda and Busoga. Traditional male attire is the kanzu.

Melissa recorded her lead vocal in NYC. Nuno Olim Marote founder of Give Peace a Voice invited Lyn to travel to Portugal to record the piano part and met with cello composer Manuel Faria and prodigious cellist Irene Lima and together they recorded their parts. But the song needed a choir and it had to be the orphaned youth that Lyn worked with in Uganda. Vincent Lyn’s first meeting with Buyinza Morgan was in 2016 when he went to Uganda on a humanitarian mission to aid him and the 300 orphaned youth that were at his high school. Buyinza at 20-years old was leading a group of singers called the Precious Choir. Lyn called Buyinza and told him about the song and he was very thrilled to be a part of the project, and so the Precious Choir recorded their parts in Uganda. All the members traveled a few hours by bus from their village in Wakiso District to the capital city of Kampala. There they would all be huddled together in a very cramped and spartan recording studio, certainly by western standards. There were days they had no electricity and would just sit around for hours waiting and praying it would come back on. But it was all worth it. It was the icing on the cake, and we all felt magic had been made.

IRENE LIMA

To think “Just Imagine” was recorded in the far reaches of the world during a global pandemic. It’s truly astonishing. Melissa Bailey (Melissa B)and Vincent Lyn created a small seed 4 years ago and together with co-lyricist Armand Hutton, now the world can hear their magic.

All the front sales are to be donated equally between We Can Save Children and Give Peace a Voice.

This song pays homage to the Portuguese Secretary-General of the United Nations U.N. António Guterres in partnership with the Portuguese NGO Give Peace A Voice and my Foundation We Can Save Children. The project Just Imagine People United has the institutional support of the Portuguese Government, namely, Pedro Siza Vieira, Minister of State, Economy and Digital Transition, and Tiago Brandão Rodrigues, Minister of Education.

"The visual arts, like music, can be vehicles for peace, so it was a special experience for me to create the drawing for the cover of Just Imagine People United, following the invitation by Nuno Olim Marote. Just as it was a privilege to feel the harmony in the encounter with Vincent Lyn, through martial arts and meditation: to find an admirable man, available to the universe and to others. His serenity and his generosity are reflected in his music on behalf of peace." - Joana Vasconcelos (contemporary visual artist renowned for her monumental sculptures)

As of this writing, the song both Remix and Original versions have hit number 3 and 4 respectively on the Worldwide iTunes Charts! Submitted to the Global Music Awards — World Music Category.

Australia‘s Most Underrated IamSnap Silently Breaks Records.

Australian rap artist IamSnap might not be a household name, but to many, he should be. Over the years, he has collaborated with many household names in a career so far spanning over 20 years. With his own style that has the hallmarks of a songwriting powerhouse and outstanding production quality, it is surprising that we haven’t heard of IamSnap much sooner.

IamSnap’s music surfaced earlier this year after charting on a compilation album titled, DJ Cell "Smoke Chronicles" featuring his song "Digital Smoke". The project soared to number 1 on itunes on the Hip Hop/Rap chart and landed a number 20 rank on Billboard. IamSnap's own projects "The Entry rap and pop volumes" dropped not long after and both projects spiked to an impressive number 31 and 33 on the U.S itunes charts.

In April of 2021, IamSnap featured on yet another compilation "Smoke Chronicles“ the original version which peaked on Billboard charts at number 18. Furthermore, IamSnap's single "Sunshine", to no one’s surprise, ranked at number 26 on the UK itunes charts, then followed up with a number 15 on Billboard via another compilation titled "Hip Hop Chronicles, Vol. 1".  As if these accolades weren’t amazing as it is, IamSnap went on to set a record by beating "The Kid Laroi" for most times charting by an Australian rap artist in 2021, which ultimately serves as a  remarkable feat for an independent artist up against the big guys!

Overall, IamSnap is on the rise coming in strong for 2021, so make sure to keep an eye out for him. If he follows the same trend in terms of accomplishments, he will certainly be on everyone’s radar in the near future.

Japanese Sensation, LiLi, Announces New Music

Amada Records recording artist LiLi releases her first single titled Sushi on July 16,2021. The song is her first release after being discovered by the label back in early 2021 when they signed her to a million dollar recording contract. LiLi is the first Japan-based artist signed to the Amada label. “We get thousands of demo submissions every week and we have never come across anyone like her. She just has that magic combination of beauty, talent, and originality that real stars are made of” ErIc Jones, CEO of Amada Records.

The song “Sushi” is a mixture of Japanese and English Hip Hop and R&B. With its pulsating rhythm and catchy hook, it’s the perfect tune to follow up her first single Invisible, which was released in 2020 as a special project from LINE Records in Japan. Her song Invisible featured Fatman Scoop and DreamDoll and made it all the way to the #2 spot on the USA iTunes Dance Chart where it shared the top 10 spotlight with other hit songs by well known artists including Avicii, David Guetta, Tate McRae, and more.

From Japan to the world, LiLi is bringing her very own style and finesse to the global music scene. She is definitely the one to watch for 2021 and beyond.

RedrumSociety, led by singer/guitarist Zach Cohen, is an award winning South Florida original band who for the past few years has enjoyed performing frequently in local shows. RedrumSociety's front man has led the band since he was in high school. During a dark period In 2015, Zach’s personal collapse led to the band’s demise. In 2016 he began to turn his life around, and relaunched the band in 2018. The band has quickly seen more and more success, with their “Street Fights” EP reaching number 1 on the iTunes Blues charts, and more recently, their first Billboard recognition through their single, “All Night” which peaked at the no. 22 spot on the Billboard charts.

According to the rock superstar, "Seeing Things" is about participating in infidelity in a relationship. In the song, the singer is denying his actions by gas lighting his girlfriend, claiming her suspicions are brought on by her insecurities and guilt. “Seeing Things” reveals the suspicions and insecurities of possible infidelity. The song suggests that the singer is being accused of cheating, while gas lighting his accuser in the song. Whether or not, the singer is guilty of infidelity is left open ended and ambiguous in the song’s lyrics. “Seeing Things” is smooth and dark with a chorus that has southern rock vibes, while also resembling a modern day Tom Petty feel.

Varges Thomas - A R&B Funk Masters Journey

Tailored to your needs, regulatory excitement, body-vibes, toe-tapping, rump-shaking, and finger popping grooves; after being on the music scene as a solo artist over the last four years, Varges Thomas is still emerging and streaming across digital and mainstream radio stations around the world. The music business is definitely not for the weak or faint of heart. It is far more than a sprint or a marathon. Passion and desire are needed for any musician who really wants to make a career in the entertainment business.

The journey has been one of a kind with many ups and downs. But through it all, the consistency, dedication, and patience has kept the R&B musician humble. With several different genre's on one EP, there were challenges with identifying and grasping the direction of his artistry. Though the versatility was there, the variety of songs on his debut EP "Destiny" resulted in mixed reviews.

Varges has been in several Indie music publications including but not limited to: Airplay Magazine, ArtistRack, Indie Network Radio, Magic Music Magazine, Radio Indie International Network, and Bring Back Soul Music along with other press and radio interviews. His songs were streamed and are still streaming in over 69 countries worldwide. The popular tunes are: Juice, Ladies Night, Varges Jam, V-Spot, Give It To Ya, Destiny, Something Special featuring PleasureMore and a tribute song to his mentor the late Roger Troutman.

His latest single "Lost For Words" is a song about finding it hard to put into words how you feel about the one you love. This track is a smooth, soft, borderline-mellow groove that is grabbing listeners' ears as the lyrical content can be related to many who may be in or once were in a serious relationship.

Here are five recommendations that all recording artist needs to know and understand. First, it takes more than talent to be successful. There has to be a team of people who believe in your craft and potential as an artist. Secondly, you have to have faith and believe in yourself to make a difference in your own life and in the lives of others.

Thirdly, there has to be networking in the industry -- with plenty of marketing and promoting your brand or products. Also, you will need finances to get your career started and headed in the right direction to get noticed. One may ask," What does it take to succeed?" You have to be willing to invest in yourself. You must be in charge of your own destiny, your sweat-equity (developing, polishing and maintaining your craft), and your commitment to your music career. There is never a dull moment as long as you are continuing to stay active and on top of your game.

Lastly, there will be some sleepless nights, along with sweat, tears, joys and growing pains. It is necessary to have thick skin and the ability to handle constructive criticism from those who can help elevate your career and take it to the next level. Let the journey continue!

LiLi's "Invisible" Featuring Fatman Scoop and DreamDoll Resurface On Music Charts

724886f1-a451-4732-ae8f-5de12f93a9d0.jpeg

July 2021 - LiLi is a talented singer and songwriter who sets the bar higher in terms of genre definitions and sonic aesthetics. Not only is she ready to unleash some of her best music yet, but she also recently signed a million-dollar deal with Amada Records, which is sure to take her career to the next level. Her music is not just about entertainment, but it’s all about setting the bar higher to share authentic experiences and connect with the audience on a deeper level.

“Invisible” is a perfect example of how LiLi also uses music to create a strong bond with other people and share something quite special with her listeners. The song features two extraordinary guests: DreamDoll, one of the hottest female rappers on the scene today, and none other than the absolute legend himself, Fatman Scoop, one of the most iconic names in the rap game. LiLi holds her own with her exciting performance, even when you put her next to two of the most talented artists in the industry today.

ab67616d0000b273ce7e7a285f39f2b87d7b11f0.jpg

The song hits hard with a stellar mix, and it brings a dash of uniqueness and focuses to the artist’s music. The sheer scope of the production will immediately capture your imagination. The music has a larger-than-life feel, almost hitting the speaker in a big cinematic way. These sounds are very evocative and create a strong texture, rather than just focusing on a melodic line to remember. The fact that there are many layers to this release allows the artist to achieve an extra sense of depth, making for a balanced and robust tone. In addition to the quality production, the song also comes with a matching music video, which has a fun and one-of-a-kind vibe, matching the music to perfection.

LiLi here to leave a legacy, and ‘Invisible” is a strong indication that she seriously means business. This track is for anyone who enjoys music made with passion and integrity. LiLi is a rare breed: an artist who is entirely selfless in terms of musicianship, as she does not just seek fame and glory: she wants to impact her audience positively.

VIP Recordings' Chris Callovar Hits Top 15 on the USA iTunes Top 100 Dance Chart

stevenchart13.jpg

It's an honor to speak with you today. You just recently hit the USA iTunes Top 100 Dance Songs Chart at number 13, with the your track “Keep Me Close to You (Radio Edit)” released with VIP Recordings a Florida based record label currently distributed by a division of Sony Music Entertainment. Why don't you give us some details about you and your success. How did you get to where you are today?

I just kept believing in myself and I always trusted the process. I learnt a lot from YouTube in the beginning and after completing all my courses at Berklee College Of Music last year, I knew I was ready to take my music to the next level. There were many times when I just wanted to give up but my parents, close friends and supporters said otherwise. It’s because of them that I kept pushing. Once my parents understood what I was doing and started believing in me, that was the ultimate motivation for me.

I'm sure your success has not come easily. What challenges have you had to overcome along the way? *

There were certainly several challenges that I came across as such a career demands a lot of funding. At first, I had to struggle to get my parents to trust in me and convince them that this is the path I want to take. My teachers and friends (except for a few) would mock me and talk bad about me behind my back. Fortunately, I had a few close friends who truly believed in what I was doing.

Let's talk about the work you do. What do you specialize in and why should someone work with you over the competition?

To be very specific, I’m an Electronic Dance Music Producer and I specialize in producing “Progressive House” which is a sub genre of House Music. Now to answer the second part of your question, first of all, I would charge much less compared to other big artists because to me, this is more about sharing the same passion for producing music rather than making it super professional and putting money before anything else. Working with me is like working with a friend. It’s about having fun with what we produce in the studio, sharing those magical moments together and being free to express our talents. No artist should feel the need to be professional with me and unnecessarily presume that he/she should have major boundaries before collaborating with me. I would do my best to make my fellow producer or singer, who would like to collaborate with me, feel comfortable around me rather than make them feel nervous or confined.

What's your best piece of advice for readers who desire to find success in their life?

Go with your gut feeling. Don’t ever be afraid to fail as that is only a lesson that is meant to be learnt which ultimately, will push you further ahead. If you are passionate about something and you truly believe that this is what you’re meant to do, give it everything you have. If you’re a teenager and you’re reading this, then do what I did. Convince your parents. Show them that you were made for this. Only then will they fully believe in what you’re doing unless you’re really lucky to have parents who are willing to support you in whatever you do from the very beginning.

Speaking of success, what does the word mean to you?

Success to me is not about making millions, owning a mansion with several cars. It’s about fulfilling what my heart and soul desires the most which is seeing my parents settle down in a beautiful countryside somewhere in Europe or Canada with a lovely bungalow which I paid for with my hard earned money. Seeing them live happily and in complete peace in such a positive environment would be the ultimate satisfaction and success for me.

What's next for you?

Getting on an official Spotify playlist is definitely my next goal. Along with that, obviously comes even better sounding music. “Keep Me Close To You” was just the very first professional sounding track of mine. There’s so much to come.
Finally, how can people connect with you if they want to learn more?

Everyone should feel free to connect with me on Instagram or on Facebook! I’m always there to answer your questions.

Meet Ananya, Influential Philanthropist and Recording Artist With a Global Impact on Mental Health and Financial Solutions

We were honored to interview Ananya, an influential philanthropist and recording artist who is changing perceptions on diversity in the entertainment industry and creating a global impact on mental health and financial solutions.

Ananya, you are one of the first musicians from India to break through in the West, you have hit nearly 350 million combined streams, collaborated with artists from Afrojack to Sean Kingston, and performed alongside Coldplay and Wiz Khalifa, what has your success in music meant to you personally as a musician from India?"

I have a long way to go, but I’m loving the journey. I feel so lucky to get to live my passion every single day – particularly over the last year, which has been so difficult for everyone, music has been a lifeline through the heaviness and isolation.  When I got to LA at the beginning of 2020, my management had set up all these shows and appearances- then everything shut down.  So, like everyone, we had to be so resourceful to get our work done.  I really wanted to get some music out so I made a studio in my spare room at home – hanging blankets and pillows all over the place, and did all the production over zoom. It was kind of back to basics, which really allowed me to connect with the tracks. I’m so glad people out here connected with the music once it was out. It’s  still crazy to me that I went from doing little open mic nights around London to getting play outs on US radio and getting to working with the amazing people I have, whether its Wiz, Sean Kingston or Afrojack, I feel totally, immeasurably grateful - not to mention vindicated. When I was starting out, I had to really fight to make myself heard, there was not a lot of artists making the kind of music I wanted to make in India and it was tough to stay true to myself and what I believed in.  I am so so happy that I did – now I pride myself on being unapologetically me! It’s amazing to have the streams, but the best thing is when someone reaches out to me to tell me that they connected with something in one of my songs and it maybe helped them through something or made them feel less alone. Music always did that for me, and if I can do that for others then that is what this is all about. That is success for me.

What do you think your success in music means to musicians in or from India?

I really want to make India proud of what I am doing out here. It’s not that common for artists to venture out.  When I was starting out, there weren’t a lot of people who looked like me, making the kind of music I wanted to make and it was tough not having anyone to identify with and follow in the footsteps of. Hopefully what I am doing will encourage  other musicians back home to feel more confident about thinking internationally when they are creating. There’s so much talent there that deserves to be heard on a global stage.

As an entrepreneur, you have set up “Svatantra “, which means freedom in Hindi, when you were only 17 to provide financial solutions to underserved women in rural India. You now have over a million customers.  Do you have any favorite personal stories on the impact you have had on the financial solutions to underserved women in rural India?

Every single client we have supported is important to me. In India the divide between rich and poor is incredibly wide. I recognize myself as enormously privileged, and I feel it is my duty to give back. We are able to reach the most marginalized women in the country: women who otherwise wouldn’t have access to banks or to financial assistance. We put the infrastructure in place so that women can help themselves, and have a hand in their own future. It is an honor to do so.  Whenever I am back in India I always take a bit of time to catch up with a few clients to see if what we are doing is continuing to make a positive impact. Before the pandemic, I went to go and see one of our very first clients, a lady who offered beauty services but at the time did not have the money to grow her business. I was so inspired when I went back, in the few years since she became a client she now has a proper business which employs four other women, and she has been able to get her daughter into full time education too. It is a testament to the fact that when women are able to earn and own and determine their own futures, entire communities are uplifted.

You also have a mental health organization in India, “Mpower”, which is set up after your own struggles whilst at Oxford University. You are also an ambassador for NAMI, the largest mental health organization in the US. Through this work you are ranked one of GQs most influential Indians.  How important is mental health advocacy to you as an entrepreneur?

It's incredibly important to me that I can use whatever platform I build to do some good – otherwise what’s the point?  When I was at college in the UK I struggled a lot with anxiety and panic attacks. Between my studies, running my businesses back in India, working on my music and trying to maintain a social life, I was totally burnt out… It took me a while to come to terms with it all, but eventually, I was lucky enough to get the professional help I needed. I know from personal experience that the consequences of just ‘sweeping it under the rug’ are awful and how important professional help can be so I wanted to make sure that everyone back home was able to get access to the same support that I was.  India is in the grip of a mental health crisis, and it’s only been made worse by the awful impact COVID has had. Depression and suicide rates are on the rise, and people are too scared to reach out for help because of the stigma, lack of awareness,  – or just because there isn’t enough support. At MPower, we campaign to stamp out the stigma and  provide amazing care for people living with mental health issues who have been ignored or discriminated against. We want people to know that its ok not to be ok sometimes and that there is help available should they need it. Through the Ananya Birla Foundation, I am also working on a study on mental health and care in rural India which I hope will drive much needed change in those hard to reach places.  I’ve also recently teamed up with NAMI in the US, to support them with their amazing work around mental health here. They provide advocacy and support so people and families affected by mental health conditions can build better lives. We teamed up at the end of last year and its been amazing to help them spread their message.

Ananya,  you WERE ON THE COVER Vogue India LAST month, can you talk about changing the perceptions of Indian musicians in the US and the increasing appetite for diversity

I am proud that I get to challenge people’s idea of what an Indian musician sounds like. Most people just think of Bollywood. And don’t get me wrong – I love some of that stuff, but there is so, so much more to Indian music.  I think streaming platforms like Spotify and social media have allowed audiences to find music that they never would have come across otherwise, which is great for artists not just in India but around the world. It also means young people are getting influenced by a whole range of styles and sounds.

You have had to overcome cultural stereotypes to drop out of Oxford University and pursue music, can you comment on that process?

For a while I was definitely that super bookish student who was so focused on my grades – like many kids I felt a particular pressure to succeed. I really wanted to make that work, but  however much I tried, that path just didn’t feel like me.  I used to play little shows at sketchy bars around London every weekend, and that was what made me feel complete. There was nothing on earth that made me happier - that feeling of being on stage was so addictive, the opportunity songwriting gave me to process my emotions and channel my pain and fear into creativity was incomparable.  I dropped out in my second year. I knew what I wanted to do, and I knew if I had any chance of succeeding then I had to commit every part of myself to it. It was scary to turn my back on a traditional career path and that security, but it wouldn’t have made me happy. I have no regrets.

Lastly, you yourself are someone who has battled and has overcome mental health struggles, what was that process like and do you have any advice you can lend to other artists or fans who may be going through a similar situation? I remember feeling utterly alone, and utterly ashamed. So what I would like to say is: it’s okay not to be okay, in fact it’s normal - most of us will go through it at some stage. What’s not okay is to suffer in silence. Mental illness isn’t a sign of weakness, and asking for help can be the strongest thing you ever do.

Interview with Jeseka Price, A&R Exec and Publisher says “Rick Ross” Inspired Her

Hi Jeseka, thank you for taking the time to sit down with us at Grind Weekly Magazine.

IMG_0081.jpg

Can you tell us who was most influential in your career as an A&R Executive?

That’s a good question, I’d say multiple mentors, Producers, and other Music Executives. Currently, my mentor “DJ Choice” from the DJ Grid has been a huge motivator and influence, specifically, when it comes to my role as A&R. Then, prior to Choice, it would most definitely have to be my very first mentor “Cortez Farris” from NYC, Multi-Platinum Engineer and Record Producer of the late great Whitney Houston and countless others.

How would you describe the majority of music that you typically listen to?

Well, my favorite genre would hands-down be rap/hip hop, but I virtually love and share a passion for nearly all genres from classical, blues, country and rock is up next on my list.

IMG_0060.jpg

Who would be your choice of Artists or Producers that you would love to collaborate with?

Yikes, now that’s a hard one for sure! But, I stand solid on my future collaboration wishlist, as it still remains to be none other than the “Biggest Boss of all Bosses” Ricky Ross (Songwriter, Rap Artist and Serial Entrepreneur). As ironic as it may seem, I do still have dreams of getting at least one good feature-verse from Rozayyy. Like I stated in my previous interview with TechCulture.Biz ``Rick Ross' ' was and still is one of my biggest inspirations in the music business. I say ‘Ross' because he really sparked a light or flipped a switch”  in my brain I suppose. Especially in his meaningful songwriting ability, lyrically he is kind of untouchable on that in the current hip-hop game.

Alright so “Rick Ross” clearly inspired you, but can you elaborate more on the topic?

Well, “Rick Ross” has so much wisdom in regards to the music industry and particularly when it comes to songwriting, ghostwriting, and publishing. I mean, Rose has not only lived it, but he dreamed it and then he took the proper channels to flip the script and be his own boss, which left the industry  “shook” especially as a black-owned businessman. I also feel like Rick’s ability to reach people like (myself) with his powerful lyrics, and that alone is simply remarkable and resonates well with me. Ultimately, Rozay’s verbiage on The Black Market album, specifically the songs “Foreclosures” and “Ghostwriter” really propelled me to form my very own entity called “Price Royalty Publishing” which is great.

However, besides Rick Ross, if I could have my wish list of All-Star collaborations with an Artist or Producer then it would likely resemble the following and more: Lil baby, HER, Jack Harlow, Pooh Sheisty, HitBoy, Timbaland, Boi1Da, SZA, Miguel, Kendrick Lamar, The Weeknd, Meg Thee Stallion, Nicki Minaj, Lil Wayne, Drake, Travis Scott, Beyonce and of course Dr. Dre, P.Diddy, Babyface, The American Dream and Johnta Austin.

Young “Jeseka” getting ready for Piano Lessons early in the game!

Young “Jeseka” getting ready for Piano Lessons early in the game!

How do you know music so well? Did you sing or rap previously?

No, absolutely not. However, my parents had me in piano lessons at a very young age. Then in middle school, my father basically told me that I was going to be in the band. I mean I’ve always loved music, I learned music theory around the age of 5. Around age 10, I recall creating my own mixtapes off the hits spun by my radio station. My parents were strict but not too strict, they let me find my way and do my thang, but only after I tried their way at least once. I mean, in hindsight I give my Dad and Mom a lot of credit for putting me in a hobby that I wasn't really into, because those lessons most likely influenced, enhanced, and aided my overall ability to comprehend music so effortlessly, and become the talented A&R that I am today.

Now, when it comes to my passion for the genre of rap music -Rhythm, Bars, and Beats I just know them well.  But, I give credit to my older brother “J.P.” he kept me “up-on game” and he always had all the latest and greatest CD’s, Cassettes, Mixtapes from RUN DMC, NWA, and DJ Screw.  I used to sneak-grab his Eazy E “Eazy Duz It” tape from his room and listen to it in my room on the low-low. There is just something about rap music that makes me feel free. Other times, I love to challenge my brain by attempting to freestyle over a beat just to see if I still got it and for fun, freestyle rapping is stimulation and homework for the brain. So the answer to the question is no, and I wouldn't be the one seeking talent if I had it.

What Artists or Musicians do you admire the most, besides “Rick Ross”?

Honestly, I admire any artist who is epic with the mic, instrument, or both and for me, it’s all about consistency. I mean talent is great, obviously...but you won't gain an honest fan base or become the next M.J. if you can’t keep up with the music industry while consistently putting out rhymes, beats, or dropping new Hits. Just look at the past history of artists, their success rate along with the fact that they seem to chart on billboard every time while increasing their die-hard fan base at the same time.

For example, Drake -of course, Lil Baby, HER, Megan Thee Stallion, Da baby. crossover to Dua Lipa, Ariana Grande all the way to Mariah Carey, Kelly Musgraves, Taylor Swift, Kenny G, Tupac, Biggie, DMX, Jay Z post or Kanye West pre and post-retirement or creating secular music only. Yes, credit goes to the major labels for financially backing these Artists in Marketing/Promo, but their ability to be timeless, consistent & unforgettable is on them.

IMG_6307.JPG

What is some of the best advice that you have ever received?

Probably, Never give up on your passion and dream, because if you find yourself pondering about the subject matter every single day or 2-3 times a week, then you most likely have something special. So the reality is you need to believe in yourself, take risks, pray on it, and then simply just do it, like Nike.

Finally, can you tell GRIND WEEKLY what’s next for J2Pricey or Jeseka Price, rather?

Haha, I love how you used my Instagram handle, good looking-out, and great question! Well, I guess my mission is to continue working hard, hustle-smart, and remain humble.  Because, at the end of the day...numbers don't lie, so results do matter. But you know what else matters even more than the stats, awards, charts, money, and accolades? Family, my sanity, my peace of mind, and of course my health. I will remain investing in myself, my career, and others -while remembering to Thank God at the end of the day.
